It is a particular kind of hell to have a compelling book sent to me right in the thick of the holiday season since I work retail. So it is, that after working my 20th day in a row, I stayed up way too late reading The Light of the World by Elizabeth Alexander. This memoir is exquisite. Breathtaking. The story of her husband’s untimely death. The tools at Alexander’s disposal, to speak to the unspeakable: her talent for poetry and her love for her husband. With them she’s built an unforgettable love story that will change those who read it. The book isn’t out until April. So now I have given you another particular kind of hell, that of having to wait to read a truly great book.
